 Ingredients




  • 1 cup yellow moong dal (split & skinned)




  • 2½ cups water (adjust for consistency)




  • 1 medium tomato, chopped




  • 1–2 green chilies, slit




  • ½ tsp turmeric powder




  • Salt to taste

  • 1½ tbsp ghee or oil




  • 1 tsp cumin seeds




  • 1–2 dry red chilies




  • 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)




  • 1 tsp grated ginger




  • 2–3 garlic cloves, finely chopped




  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)




  • ½ tsp red chili powder




  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish




  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)








???? Instructions


Step 1: Cook the Dal




  1. Rinse moong dal thoroughly 2–3 times.




  2. In a pressure cooker or pot, combine dal, turmeric, tomatoes, green chilies, and water.




  3. Pressure cook for 2–3 whistles or boil until soft and mushy.




  4. Whisk the cooked dal to a smooth consistency. Add salt and simmer for 5 minutes.




Step 2: Prepare the Tadka




  1. Heat ghee or oil in a small pan.




  2. Add cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and hing.




  3. Add garlic, ginger, and sauté until golden.




  4. Add onion (if using) and cook until soft.




  5. Add red chili powder and immediately pour the tempering over the simmering dal.








✅ Garnish and Serve




  • Stir in chopped coriander and lemon juice (optional).




  • Serve hot with steamed rice, jeera rice, or roti.
